Ferrari says no to sedan or four door

Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo made it clear: "I have been president of this company for nearly twenty years, and I hope to continue for another twenty, and as long as that is so, Ferrari will not make a four-door sedan."

It was a logical enough question for the handsome, di Montezemolo here at the Paris motor show, as cross-town rival Lamborghini rolled out the Estoque four-door concept, one of the show's most talked-about reveals. "We will continue to build extreme cars, sporty cars, larger GTs, but a sedan is not right for Ferrari." When asked about the radical Lambo sedan concept that is on its way to production, he replied simply, "Good luck."

People still remember the Pinin, a four-door Ferrari concept designed and built in 1981 by Pininfarina, so it was a logical question to ask. But that car was never an official Ferrari project; it sold as "automobilia" not as a car, at RM Auction's Legenda e Passione sale at the Ferrari factory in May.

I agree with Mr. di Montezemolo. Every carmaker should explore unique automotive forms, but this is a place that Ferrari should never, ever go. I believe this is one of the reasons Lamborghini put forth the Estoque, because they know Ferrari will not respond in kind with its own sedan. This gives Lambo some clear air in the exoticar stratosphere.

Over the next few years, we'll find out how the Estoque, the Panamera, the Rapide, future Bentley models, and possibly others will do in this space. No matter, this particular fight will take place without Ferrari. It's a place Maranello doesn't belong, and I'm pleased they feel no need to go there.

Aston martin one-77 almost revealed

As supercar sales slow down around the world due to economic issues, Aston Martin went ahead and announced an all-new flagship supercar called the One-77. Though only releasing dark teaser shots of the oddly-named car, simply brightening up the photos digitally reveals a whole lot more.
Information available so far suggests a lightweight aluminium-bodied coupe with a 7.0-litre (or larger) V12 engine, good for around 700 hp. The front-engined rear-wheel-drive platform will also feature adaptive suspension, automanual paddle-shifted gearbox, pop-up rear spoiler and ceramic brakes.
Reportedly priced at more than 1 million British pounds (that’s more than Dhs 7 million to us poor people), the One-77 will go on sale by the end of 2009.

Seat leon copa new edition

SEAT is continuing its run of limited-edition Leon models with the new Supercopa. The car, to be launched to mark the start of the new season of SEAT Leon Supercopa, is supposed to be a scorcher of note, whistling away at a top speed of 254km/h.

Thrusting it forth is a 2.0-litre Turbo FSI engine whose 212kW (285 bhp) shows the real possibilities of FSI technology if applied correctly.

That is to say, in the way we at WCF like! As a result of this surge, torque gets a boost as well to the figure of 360Nm. Mind you, the racing version makes 340Nm so you are already a legend in the making driving this car.

As far as the 0 – 100km/h time is concerned, 5.9 seconds should do the trick. Frugality is one of its other latent traits as SEAT claims an average of 8.3 litres per 100km, with a CO2 emissions figure of 199 g/km. To handle all this power, the Leon Supercopa has upgraded brake discs and Eibach springs. Appropriate body kit is a given, this time using SEAT SPORT racing version and black painted 18-inch alloy wheels.

The price for Spanish thrills? Only €38,500. Be warned though; only 55 of these are on offer so space and availability are limited.
